FAQ

Got a huge Steam backlog, a group of friends who cannot decide what to play, or profile data that does not look right? This page explains how Pickagame works, what it can and cannot read from Steam, and how to fix the most common issues.

About Pickagame

What is Pickagame?

Pickagame is a free Steam library tool that helps you decide what to play next.

It can pick a random game from your Steam library, apply filters before picking, show library stats, compare your profile with friends, find common games, browse your wishlist, explore all Steam games, and create visual summaries like collages.

The main idea is simple: instead of scrolling through a huge Steam library and still not choosing anything, you can narrow the list down to games that actually fit what you want to play.

How is Pickagame different from just opening my Steam library?

Steam shows your games, but Pickagame is built around choosing, filtering, comparing, and analyzing them.

For example, you can filter by playtime, reviews, tags, categories, release date, current players, HowLongToBeat estimates, Steam Deck compatibility, GeForce NOW support, price, and other data. You can also compare profiles with friends and find games that multiple people own.

It is more of a backlog and discovery tool than a replacement for Steam.

Does Pickagame require a Steam login or password?

No. Pickagame does not need your Steam password.

It works with public Steam profile data. If something is private on Steam, Pickagame usually cannot access it.

Pickagame privacy

Is Pickagame affiliated with Steam or Valve?

No. Pickagame is an independent website and is not affiliated with Valve or Steam.

Random picker and filters

How does the random picker work?

The random picker chooses a game from the currently selected source, such as your Steam library, wishlist, all Steam games, or a filtered list.

If you apply filters first, the picker only chooses from games that match those filters. This lets you use randomness without picking from your entire library blindly.

For example, you can roll only from short games, unplayed games, co-op games, highly reviewed games, Steam Deck games, or games matching a specific title pattern.

How do filters affect the random picker?

Filters define the pool of games that the random picker can choose from.

For example, if you filter your library to short games with good reviews and low playtime, the random picker will only choose from games matching those conditions.

This is useful when you want the site to surprise you, but still stay within the type of game you actually want to play.

Why does the search box not affect the random picker?

The search box above the games list only searches the currently visible results. It does not change what the random picker can choose.

To affect random picking, use filters instead. For title-based random picking, use the title pattern filter.

What is the title pattern filter?

The title pattern filter lets you limit random picking by game title.

You can search for games that contain specific text, start with specific text, end with specific text, or match a simple wildcard pattern. For example, you can look for games containing “bio”, starting with “dark”, or ending with “remastered”.

This is different from the search box above the games list. The search box only searches visible results, while the title pattern filter changes what the random picker can choose.

How can I stop the random picker from choosing games I do not want?

Use filters before rolling.

A good starting point is to filter out games with very low reviews, games that are too long, games you already played a lot, or tags/categories you are not interested in right now.

If your library is large, even a few filters can make the result feel much more useful.

How do I find something short to play tonight?

Use HowLongToBeat filters or sorting.

You can look for games with a short Main Story, Main + Extra, Completionist, or All Styles estimate. This is useful when you want something you can finish in one evening, over a weekend, or before starting a longer game.

The estimate is not exact, but it is usually better than guessing from the game title or Steam tags alone.

How can I find games I started but never finished?

Compare your Steam playtime with HowLongToBeat estimates.

If your playtime is much lower than the estimated Main Story or Main + Extra time, the game may be worth returning to. This is especially useful for games you launched once, forgot about, and then lost inside a large backlog.

How can I find games I bought but barely played?

Sort or filter your library by price, playtime, and price per hour.

This can help you find games that may deserve another chance, especially if you bought them during a sale and never really played them.

How can I find hidden gems in my library?

Start with games you barely played, then narrow them down with reviews, tags, release year, current players, or HowLongToBeat length.

This works better than picking completely randomly from a large backlog, because the result still has some quality control.

What are filter presets?

Filter presets are saved filter combinations.

They are useful when you often search for the same kind of game, such as short singleplayer games, co-op games for friends, Steam Deck games, hidden gems, or games you bought but barely played.

Instead of rebuilding the same filters every time, you can save them once and reuse them later.

Playing with friends

What is profile comparison?

Profile comparison lets you compare Steam libraries between multiple public Steam profiles.

It can show games that profiles have in common, games unique to one profile, and useful stats about the compared libraries.

This is mostly useful when you want to find something to play with friends without manually checking everyone’s Steam account.

What are common games?

Common games are games owned by more than one compared Steam profile.

For example, if you compare your profile with two friends, common games can show which games all three of you own. This is useful when your group wants to find something to play without asking everyone to buy a new game.

After opening common games, you can still use filters to narrow the list by co-op, multiplayer, playtime, reviews, HowLongToBeat length, Steam Deck support, and other data.

How do I find a game that my whole group can play?

Use profile comparison first, then check common games.

Once you have the shared games list, apply filters based on what your group wants to play. For example, you can filter for online co-op, multiplayer, Remote Play Together, controller support, short games, or highly reviewed games.

This is useful when everyone says “I don’t know, you choose”.

What does “unique games” mean in profile comparison?

Unique games are games owned by one selected profile but not by the others in the comparison.

This can help you see what each person adds to the group library. It is also useful when comparing two accounts and checking what one account has that the other one does not.

How can Pickagame help with Steam Family?

Pickagame does not connect directly to Steam Family permissions.

However, if people in your Steam Family have public libraries, you can compare their profiles and see which games are shared between accounts. This can help you understand who owns what and which games are common between accounts.

The result is based on public Steam library data, not on Steam Family access rules.

Can I pick a random game from games I share with a friend?

Yes. Compare profiles first, open common games, apply any filters you want, and then pick a random game from that shared list.

This is useful when two or more people want to play something together, but nobody wants to choose.

Library stats and game data

What is HowLongToBeat data used for?

HowLongToBeat data helps estimate how long a game takes to finish.

Pickagame uses it to show completion time, sort games by length, estimate backlog size, and help you find games that fit the amount of time you have.

The estimates are not exact. Some games have limited data, multiple editions, DLC, multiplayer content, or different playstyles.

How is Steam library value calculated?

Library value is estimated from available Steam price data.

The number can help you understand the rough value of your library, played games, unplayed games, or wishlist. It is not a perfect accounting tool, because Steam prices change by region, sales, bundles, removed packages, and publisher updates.

Always check Steam directly before buying a game.

How is Steam wishlist value calculated?

Wishlist value is estimated from available Steam prices for games on your wishlist.

It can help you see how much your wishlist would cost, especially before a Steam sale. The number is still only an estimate, because prices can change by region, sale, bundle, or availability.

What are regional prices?

Regional prices show how a game’s Steam price differs between countries or pricing regions.

Pickagame can convert those prices into your selected display currency, making it easier to compare them.

The values are meant for comparison. The Steam store should always be treated as the final source before buying.

Why are my stats different from Steam?

Pickagame calculates some stats differently from Steam.

For example, it may use filters, exclude unavailable data, group games differently, or combine Steam data with HowLongToBeat, price, compatibility, and other metadata.

This means Pickagame stats should be treated as an additional analysis of your library, not as a one-to-one copy of Steam’s own stats.

Why is some game data wrong?

Most game data comes from external sources, mostly Steam and other third-party services.

If those sources return wrong, outdated, or missing data, Pickagame may show it too. You can report incorrect data through the contact form.

Report incorrect game data

Why is HowLongToBeat data missing or inaccurate?

HowLongToBeat data depends on external community data and matching between game databases.

Some games have too little data, multiple editions, DLC, multiplayer modes, unusual names, or incomplete estimates.

Report missing HowLongToBeat data

Why is the price different from Steam?

Steam prices can change because of sales, bundles, regional pricing, currency conversion, removed packages, or publisher changes.

Always check the Steam store before buying.

Report incorrect Steam price

Why do some games have missing screenshots, prices, tags, or system requirements?

Some Steam games have incomplete store data, removed store pages, region restrictions, unusual app types, or missing metadata.

Pickagame can only show the data it can access.

Report missing game metadata

Extra tools

What is the Collage Generator?

The Collage Generator creates a shareable image from games in your Steam library. Instead of showing your library as a list, it turns selected games into a visual collage using Steam artwork.

You can use it to show your most played games, create a quick visual summary of your account, or make an image to share with friends.

The collage can be customized by changing how games are selected and displayed. Depending on available data, you can base it on playtime or review score, adjust the layout balance, choose thumbnail preferences, show or hide playtime labels, and remove games you do not want to include.

Some games may have missing, unusual, or low-quality artwork, so the final result depends on the images and metadata available from Steam.

What is CSV export?

CSV export lets you download your games list as a spreadsheet-friendly file.

This is useful if you want to analyze your library outside Pickagame, make your own charts, track your backlog, or keep a personal backup of selected game data.

Depending on the export options, the file can include things like title, playtime, price, reviews, release date, HowLongToBeat data, compatibility info, and other columns.

What are game details?

Game details collect extra information about a selected game in one place.

Depending on available data, this can include screenshots, videos, Steam reviews, Metacritic score, release date, platforms, developer, publisher, system requirements, HowLongToBeat estimates, current players, price history, regional prices, Steam Deck compatibility, and GeForce NOW status.

Some information may be missing if Steam or another data source does not provide it.

What is the all Steam games mode?

All Steam games mode lets you browse and filter games from the wider Steam catalog, not only games you own.

This is useful for discovering new games, checking trends, comparing prices, finding hidden gems, or looking for games with specific tags and features.

Because this mode is not limited to your library, it is better for discovery than backlog management.

What is wishlist mode?

Wishlist mode lets you browse, filter, sort, and analyze your Steam wishlist.

It can help you check wishlist value, compare prices, sort by priority or date added, and decide what is worth buying during a sale.

Wishlist data depends on what Steam makes available publicly.

Steam privacy and loading issues

Why does Pickagame say my profile is private after I changed it?

Steam privacy changes may not appear immediately because Pickagame caches some profile data.

Wait up to one hour and try again. Also check that your Steam profile and game details are public, because Steam has separate privacy settings for different parts of your account.

Fix private Steam profile issue

Why can Pickagame see my profile but not my games?

Your Steam profile may be public while your game details are still private.

Steam has a separate “Game details” privacy setting, and Pickagame needs that data to load your library.

Fix hidden Steam games

Why can Pickagame see my games but not my friends?

Your friends list has its own Steam privacy setting.

Make sure your friends list is public, then wait up to one hour because cached data may still show the old state.

Fix hidden Steam friends list

Why is a game missing from my library?

Possible reasons include Steam privacy settings, cached data, removed or hidden Steam games, Steam API limitations, or temporary update issues.

If the game still does not appear after your profile is public and the cache has refreshed, report it through the contact form.

Report missing Steam game

Why is my playtime wrong?

Playtime comes from Steam.

If Steam reports different playtime, hides it, or has not updated it yet, Pickagame cannot always correct it.

Steam playtime data

Why does Pickagame sometimes load slowly?

Large libraries, profile comparisons, charts, external data, and detailed filters can require a lot of data.

Pickagame uses caching and optimizations, but very large profiles or comparisons may still take longer.
